Job Description

Vanguard Claims Administration is seeking experienced 1099 Independent Liability Claims Adjusters to handle NYCHA claims throughout New York City and the surrounding boroughs. This is an independent contractor opportunity for an experienced claims professional with strong liability investigation, field inspection, coverage analysis, and settlement negotiation experience.

This is an opportunity for an experienced liability adjuster who enjoys working independently, conducting thorough field investigations, evaluating liability and damages, and providing professional service to claimants, clients, attorneys, and other parties.

What You'll Do

• Conduct on-site investigations and inspections of properties and incident locations.
• Investigate liability and personal injury claims and assess the facts and circumstances surrounding each loss.
• Interview claimants, witnesses, property representatives, and other involved parties.
• Gather and document evidence, including photographs, statements, police reports, records, and other supporting documentation.
• Evaluate liability, coverage, damages, repair estimates, and claim validity.
• Manage an assigned caseload while meeting client requirements, deadlines, and service expectations.
• Prepare clear, thorough claim reports and maintain accurate documentation in claims management systems.
• Communicate professionally with claimants, attorneys, clients, vendors, and other parties.
• Work independently while managing priorities, schedules, and field assignments.
• Maintain the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, accuracy, and customer service.

What We're Looking For

• Active New York Independent Adjuster License – required
• 2–3+ years of liability claims adjusting experience , preferably in the field
• Experience with premises liability and/or personal injury claims
• NYCHA, municipal, public-sector, or large-property claims experience is a plus
• Strong investigative, analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanor
• Ability to work independently and manage a caseload with minimal supervision
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Ability to travel approximately 90% of the time throughout NYC
• Flexibility to work a non-traditional schedule based on claimant and inspection availability
• Ability to carry and set up a ladder and access elevated areas/roofs when required
• Proficiency with Xactimate, XactAnalysis, claims management systems, and Microsoft Office
• Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply

Compensation

1099 contractors are paid a percentage of the applicable client invoice generated by Vanguard for completed claim assignments. Compensation varies based on the type, complexity, and volume of assignments.
